NNPC resumes oil exploration in Borno

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched the exploration of oil and gas campaign at Wadi B well drilling in Tuba community in Jere local Government area of Borno state.
The drill signified the official starting of the state’s actual oil and gas exploration. The push for oil and gas exploration efforts in the Lake Chad Basin has been continuing since 1976, according to the President, who spoke electronically during the occasion.
After the finding of some commercial gas, drilling started in 1985.
He however, discovered that the work had been put on hold due to security concerns and expressed optimism that NNPC would step up efforts to really develop oil and gas in the region.
President Buhari who was represented by Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum said that the project would impact positively on the socio economic development of the state.
He promised to provide the needed support towards the completion of the project.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, Dr Mele Kyari gave assurance that the project will be achieve in a record time.
Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi expressed hope that oil and gas exploration in the Chad Basin would be a reality for the betterment of the state and the country.
