Singer Tina Turner, whose soul classics and pop hits like The Best and What’s Love Got to Do With has died at the age of 83.

Turner had a history of health problems, including cancer, a stroke, and kidney failure.

In the 1960s, she and husband Ike rose to prominence with songs such as Proud Mary and River Deep, Mountain High.

She divorced Ike in 1978 and went on to have even more success as a solo performer in the 1980s.

Tina Turner was dubbed the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” for her bawdy and exuberant stage performances, as well as her deep, strong voice.

Her death was confirmed on her Instagram account.

With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.

Turner won eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2021, after being inducted alongside Ike Turner in 1991.

The Hall of Fame observed that she had “expanded the once-limited idea of how a Black woman could conquer a stage and be both a powerhouse and a multidimensional being” upon her solo induction.

Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Janelle Monae, and Rihanna are among the younger stars that have felt her influence.

American singer Gloria Gaynor, who also rose to fame in the 1960s, said Turner “paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white”.

There were also tributes from Supermodel Naomi Campbell, Basketball legend Magic Johnson and singers Kelly Rowland and Ciara.

On Instagram, The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger said Turner was “inspiring, warm, funny and generous” and helped him when he was young.

She also suffered tragedy with the loss of her eldest son Craig to suicide in 2018.

His father was Turner’s former bandmate, Raymond Hill.
