Protest In Plateau: Workers Seek Reversal Of Policies

Labour Unions in Plateau state have called for the reversal of government’s recent policies that has posed as a threat to financial independence, education as well as standard of living..
The Unions who joined their counterparts acros the country in a peaceful protest made their stance known at Secretariat junction venue for the convergence of the protest in the state.
The Unions comprising, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Teachers Union Congress, TUC, Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU, Student Union association’s, Civil Society Organisations, CSOs among others gathered at the Secretariat Junction Jos to press home their demands for fair economic policies and improved standard of living.
They had placards with inscriptions such as we deserve better, stop bad policies, let the poor breath as they chanted solidarity songs.
The Plateau state NLC Chairman Comrade Eugene Manji who explained the reason for the Protest noted with dismay Government’s harsh policies which he said were against the public interest and unbearable to the masses.
He highlighted some demands of the unions which he said if adhered to would help alleviate the plight of the masses.
On his part, Plateau state TUC Chairman Comrade Kenneth Shama called on government to revert to status quo and continue negotiations in the interest of Nigerians.
Meanwhile the Vice President Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU Plateau state chapter Professor Christopher Piwuna reiterated that the unions would not back down until their demands are met.
A representative of the Civil Society Organisations Steve Aluko opined that the protest was long overdue.
The Unionists who were in the company of their members and concerned Nigerians, marched to the State Secretariat singing solidarity songs.
Security Personnel were also on the ground to ensure law and order.
