Major cities in Niger are facing blackouts. This is as a result of Nigeria cutting of supplies to the country.
Niger’s electricity company Nigelec confirmed the development to BBC.
On July 28, the head of the presidential guards unit General Abdourahmane Tchiani declared himself Niger’s new leader.
West African leaders on Sunday gave Niger’s military junta one-week ultimatum to give up power or face possible military consequences.
However, it is not clear if the ECOWAS sanctions on Niger include electricity supplies.
Meanwhile, ECOWAS Defence Chiefs on Wednesday converge on Abuja, Nigeria for a two-day meeting to discuss potential military intervention to roll back the coup.
