Tinubu Mourns Victims of Canadian Embassy Fire

President Bola Tinubu has sympathised with the Canadian government, diplomatic community, and all the victims of the fire incident which occurred at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja on Monday.
In a statement by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said the President assures the Canadian authorities of the full support of the Nigerian government in the aid of diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly affected by the incident.
“President Tinubu prays for the repose of the departed souls and wishes all injured persons a rapid and full recovery,” the statement partly said.
Media earlier reported that a fire incident occurred at the High Commission of Canada to Nigeria, located in the Central Business District of Abuja, claimed two lives, leaving two others injured and hospitalised with severe burns.
The Head of Operations of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, who confirmed the incident noted that two people were fatally injured in the incident, while about three or four other victims had been rushed to hospitals.
Adebayo, however, did not state the cause of the fire incident or whether the affected victims were foreigners or Nigerians.
Thick, dark smokes were seen spiraling into the skies from the tall building of the High Commission of Canada in Nigeria, situated at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District in Abuja.
The High Commission provides visa and immigration services for those seeking to visit or emigrate to Canada. It provides services to Canadians visiting and living in Nigeria and to Canadians in Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe.
Its services include adoption and surrogacy, birth abroad, citizenship services, marriage abroad, passport services, notarial services, studying abroad and visa and immigration services.
