IHVN To Partner CDC In The Fight Against Gender-Based Violence

Residents of Nasarawa state have been advised to report cases of violence against women and girls to relevant authorities for necessary action.

State First Lady Hajiya Silifat sule advised this year’s 16 Days activism against Gender-Based Violence GBV organized by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria in collaboration with the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention in Shabu.

Hajiya Silifat sule expressed concerned that people have not attached seriousness on issues that lead to violence against women and girls hence the need for stakeholders to pay greater attention on the issue.
She encouraged mothers not to relent in reporting issues that affect their children especially the female ones to prevent them from being victims of rape and abuse.

On his part,the state program manager Institute of Human Virology Nigeria Doctor Yakubu Sambo advised all stakeholders to work towards prevention of harm against women and girls In the society.

Doctor Sambo appealed to residents to make use of lessons learnt during the 16 Days activism to ensure that gender based violence becomes a thing of the past.

Also speaking,a GBV madam stanler Abel described as alarming,the data raised by the Institute for Human Virology Nigeria and she appealed to traditional and religious leaders to always work together with their subjects in the fight against Gender Based violence In their communities

On her part, State commissioner for women Affairs and social development Hajiya Aisha Rufai lamented that issues relating to harmful acts against women are not reported to the relevant authority for necessary action, and charged people in the state to report victims of rape to the sexual Assault Centre, for check up and counselling.

The sangarin Shabu Alhaji Mahmud in his speech, Bwala assured the institute of his emirate support in the fight against Gender Based violence In the state.

He commended the first lady on her efforts in changing the lives of less privileged in the state.

The theme for this year’s 16 Days activism is “Unite, Invest to prevent violence against women and girls.
