AGF Clarifies Humanitarian Minister’s Request for Payments

The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, says her office does not make payments on behalf of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for projects and programmes carried out by MDAs.

In a statement on Saturday, AGF says its received a request from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to make certain payments to vulnerable groups in some states of the federation.

According to her, the office Accountant General of the Federation did not act on the request for payment, but gave necessary advice on the appropriate steps to take in line with payment procedure.

She said that allocations are released to self-accounting MDAs in line with the budget and such MDAs are responsible for the implementation of their projects and payments for such projects.

The AGF maintained that no bulk payment should be made to an account of individual to carryout Projects.

She advised that such payment should be sent to the beneficiaries through their verified bank accounts.

Dr. Madein promised to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of public finances.

In a statement, Rasheed Zubair, Edu’s media aide states that the payment of the grant to the account of an individual was because the fellow is the Project Accountant of Grants for Vulnerable Groups.
