Stakeholders assure INEC of Peaceful Rerun Election in Nasarawa State

Stakeholders in Keana and Doma local government areas of Nasarawa state have assured the independent National Electoral commission INEC of a violence free state Assembly rerun elections scheduled for third February 2024.
The stakeholders drawn from the political parties, Traditional and Religious leaders,security operatives,women as well as youth groups gave the assurance at a meeting held separately in Keana and Doma local government areas organized by INEC to create awareness on the need for a hitch free election come next Saturday.
Representatives of most of the groups that spoke at the event expressed total resolve to ensure that the rerun election is conducted without hitches.
The rerun election is scheduled to hold in five polling units of Agaza ward in Keana local government and one polling unit in Rukubi, Doma south state constituency of Nasarawa state.
State chairman of Inter party Advisory council IPAC, Mr Cletus Ogah said all the parties expected to participate in the election have unanimously decided to shun acts capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the rerun.
On their part ,the security agencies gave an assurance that necessary measures have been put in place for adequate protection of voters and election materials but called on the political parties to prevail on their supporters who are not voters from the polling unit to stay clear of the area during the exercise.
The National commissioner of INEC in charge of North Central, Mohammad Haruna enjoined the contestants to accept the outcome of the election in good fate.
Resident Electoral commissioner of INEC in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Shehu El wahab told the gathering that all the non sensitive election materials have been delivered to the six polling units, and the sensitive ones particularly the BVAS machine had been re configured purposely for the election.
Alhaji El wahab emphasized the need for the political parties to caution their supporters to conduct themselves in orderly manner during and after the polls.
Ten political parties are expected to participate in the state assembly rerun election in six polling units in Nasarawa state next Saturday..
