Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has described as reckless the statement by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar accusing President Tinubu of trivialising the security and economic challenges facing the country.

Mr Onanuga, who said Alhaji Abubakar’s statements on the administration are not made for the love of the country, noted that the former vice president is attacking the government because of the defeat he suffered in the last presidential election.

”Coming days after he made an equally reckless allegation against the President on the crude loan deal for NNPC Limited, his latest statement fell short of what is expected from an elder statesman.

We like to believe that Alhaji Atiku is still not nursing the hangover of his electoral defeat and now latches on any issue to attack President Tinubu. If Alhaji Atiku is concerned about security issues and not playing cheap politics, he should have known that President Tinubu is on top of issues and working hard to restore peace to every part of our country.

President Tinubu did not travel without informing Nigerians of his whereabouts. He announced a private visit to France and a return date.” Onanuga said.

He maintained that despite his trip to France, the President is still administering the country effectively, following developments at home, and he is on top of the situation in the country and also approved the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

Onanuga pointed out that the President has also directed security agents to act decisively against all criminalities, and that order is already yielding results in some states.

”He has particularly ordered them to apprehend those criminals responsible for the murder of two monarchs in Ekiti State and the kidnapping of some pupils in the state.

We are already seeing results with the arrest of over 139 kidnappers around Abuja, Kaduna, and Benue States in the last week. The police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and DSS have also rescued 154 abducted people in the last few days.

He emphasized that the President had also approved N50 billion as a fund to address some of the lingering security challenges in the North East, where Alhaji Atiku hails from.

According to Onanuga, the President has also approved funds for the acquisition of equipment to track criminals to cope with the kidnapping challenges in the FCT.

The media had reported that gunmen kidnapped an undisclosed number of schoolchildren, teachers, and a driver in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Monday evening on their way to Eporo Ekiti on their school bus.

The abductors of the Ekiti pupils and teachers are demanding a 100 million naira ransom.
