The activities of illegal miners in Plateau State and the country at large has been identified as one of the major factors contributing to
insecurity.

This was the position of the Leader of a Fact Finding Team on the recurring crisis in the country, Major General Agustine Agundu when he paid a visit on the Governor of plateau State Caleb Mutfwang.

The Fact-Finding team which is the brain child of the Chief of Defence Staff was aimed at unravelling the remote causes of cases of insecurity bedeviling the country.

Chairman of the team, Retired Major General Agustine Agundu while addressing Governor Mutfwang, noted that part of the findings by the team was the lack of political will to deal with illegal mining in the country.

He therefore advocated the urgent need to resettle all displaced persons and to promote forgiveness and reconciliation.

Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang charged the team to prove that the confidence reposed in them by the Chief of Defence Staff for the assignment was not in vain and to ensure that they find solutions to the various crisis.

The Governor sought the use of technology in securing most of the un governed spaces and recommended justice for the victims and the perpetrators

The Seven member Team’s mission has since commenced in Plateau State with meetings held with different stakeholders in the most affected areas.
