NLC gives Niger govt one-day to meet demands

Organised Labour in Niger state has given the state government a one-day ultimatum to meet its demand or embark on an indefinite strike action.

The ultimatum is contained in a statement that was jointly signed by Comrade Ibrahim Gana of the Trade Union Congress and Comrade Idris Lafene, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

According to the statement, Niger state workers shall commence on an indefinite strike if their demands were comprehensively met.

The statement lists a few of their demands, including the removal of the recent appointment of Vice Principal on secondment as Permanent Secretary to enable internal career advancement and the announcement that, Organized Labour in Niger State will no longer accept the appointment of Permanent Secretaries who are ineligible and within the service.

Similarly, the Niger state government must come up with a clear statement on payment of wage awards for its Civil Servants and reversal of appointments in dispute such as Executive Director of Finance and Administration as well as that of Operations and the Permanent Commissioners of Local Government Service Commission, Civil Service Commission and Directors General of some Agencies.
