Police arrest 109 illegal miners in Nasarawa

The Police in Nasarawa State have arrested 109 suspected illegal miners operating in the state.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that the arrest was made in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
He said, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Anti-kidnapping Unit alongside the vigilante group, embarked on a raid of kidnappers’ den located at Alogani mountains and arrested the suspects.
“The operation commenced from Mada station to Wakama, a mountain stretch that kidnappers use as hideout to keep their victims until a ransom is paid.
“During the search, it was discovered that the kidnappers had deserted all the camps before the arrival of the operatives but 109 suspects were arrested at different locations on the mountain carrying out illegal mining of solid minerals such as Topaz, Tin, and Aquamarine. A den gun, cutlasses, knives illegally mined solid minerals, etc, were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
“The suspects have been profiled and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Nansel added that the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Umar Nadada has ordered a continuous clampdown and raids on criminal hideouts in the State.
He, therefore, warned all criminals to turn a new leaf or meet their waterloo.
