FG assures internal security, border control
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo says the ministry remains committed to effect internal security and border control.
The Minister stated this at the presentation of interim report of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Integrated Border Governance, that assessed the country’s border security and management.
Tunji-Ojo who applauded the diligent implement of the committee’s recommendations contained in the report.
“Border security is the cornerstone of any nation’s defence. We have to take border management security seriously and work with border communities to create a sense of awareness and collaboration,” the minister said.
The chairman of the committee who is the Director, Joint Services in the ministry, Peter Egbodo, outlined the key conclusions and recommendations of the report.
The report proffered recommendations aimed at enhancing security measures and fortifying the nation’s borders, in line with the commitment of the President Tinubu’s administration to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
Members of the committee were drawn from top officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, National Boundary Commission, Border Community Development Agency and Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation.
The Committee conducted visits to five border posts located in various regions of the country over a span of four months, starting from October 13, 2023, and concluding on February 20, 2024.
