AACJ Advocates Inclusion of Gender and Climate Change Into Economic Development

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day, The African Activist For Climate Justice, AACJ has joined forces with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Nasarawa State to advocate inclusion of gender and climate change issues into Economic development policies and programmes.
Executive sectary of The Young Men’s Christian Association, Mr Ango Adamu stated this at the commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.
The African Activist for Climate Justice believed that impacts of climate change are not felt equally across both genders.
Executive Secretary of The Young Men’s Christian Association, Mr Ango Adamu said the African Activist for Climate Justice, celebrates women progress made towards achieving gender equality and mother’s Empowerment.
Mr Adamu said The African Activist for Climate Justice has played a vital role and contributed a lot to women development in Nasarawa State by renewing their commitments to making gender equality a reality.
The African Activist For Climate Justice therefore appealed to Government to invest more in women for accelerate growth.
First Lady of Nasarawa State Hajiya Silifat Sule said for a woman to achieve any positive outcome , there is the need for her to exhibit good character and behavior that will assist her achieve her desired goals.
She appealed to members of the public to always support women in their activities to enable them realise their potentials.
Also Speaking, State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Aisha Rufai pointed out that discriminatory practices against women which have been entrenched in the Nigeria socio economic and political system over the years, has not made room for equitable participation of women especially in political and economic activities.
She said the Ministry has trained and empowered women in skills acquisition in detergent making, Fishery among others.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development along side the First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Sule among other women groups staged a walk to the office of the state deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe in commemoration of the international Women’s Day.
Responding the Deputy Governor Doctor Emmanuel Akabe advised women to rise up to the challenge by making themselves available for positions that will improve them.
On her part, the Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Network on Environment and Climate Justice Rejoice Asoloko called on women to get involved in the development of their communities.
She called on Stakeholders to contribute towards creating and promoting opportunities that guarantee more participation of women in leadership and social investment.
The event had in attendance women from different walks of life including the wife of the Deputy Governor, Tosan Akabe, former Secretary to the State Government, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, state chief judge, justice Aisha Bashir among others.
The highlight of the event was paper presentation on gender equality and empowerment.
