Bandits abduct 30 children in Katsina village

Armed bandits have abducted at least thirty children from Kasai village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Eyewitness told Radio Nigeria that the bandits ambushed the children at the outskirts of the village where they went to fetch firewood.One of the eyewitness, Abu Rabe, narrated that the bandits rounded off the children aged between eight and fifteen and escorted them into the trenches of the forest between Kasai and Jibia.

While the police could not be reached on efforts to rescue the children, a member of the local vigilante in the area told Radio Nigeria that a joint team of vigilante, Community Watch Corps and police operatives have launched an operation to rescue the children.

Our correspondent reports that in recent months, Kasai Village had come under several banditry attacks, resulting in dozens of deaths, abductions and destruction of property.
