A cross section of residents in Lafia the Nasarawa State Capital have decried the soaring cost of transportation occasioned by the continuous hike in petrol pump price.

They bared their minds while exchanging views with our Correspondent, Esther Enna, in Lafia.

There has been a persistent increase in prices of essential commodities among other basic things that impact the general well-being of most Nigerians and one of them is petrol.

Some of them including Mr Anzaewu Envuladu, Pius Patrick and Anzaku Usman, expressed worry over the hike in cost of transportation to their places of work as a result of the sudden hike in price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.

They appealed to the government at sub and national levels to swiftly reduce the current hardship faced by citizens.

Narrating their ordeal over the hike in fuel pump price and transportation, Mrs Habiba Mohammed and Miss Margaret Mutuwa described the rise in cost of living as affecting relationships among families and friends, calling on the authorities concerned to intervene for the sake of the common man.

A commercial bus driver and tricycle driver, Mallam Alkali Salihu and Adams Musa both lamented that the increase in fuel pump price has affected them as they now witness low turn-out of commuters, forcing some of their members to venture into other businesses.

They maintained that some people would be relieved of their jobs and thrown to the street if these teething challenges are not given immediate attention.
