Nasarawa State Ministry of Education Reinterate Commitment to Safeguard Standard of Education

Nasarawa State Ministry of Education says it will continue to collaborate with development partners towards safeguarding the standard of Education in the state.

The state Commissioner for Education,Mr John Mamman made this known at the unveiling of School Related Gender -Based Violence Safeguarding Policy for Secondary School in Collaboration with Non Profitable Organisations,Rise Up and Education as a Vaccine EVA in Lafia the Nasarawa State Capital.

Schools Related Gender -Based violence include threats of sexual, physical or psychological violence occurring in and around Schools, perpetrated as a result of gender norms and stereotypes enforced by unequal power dynamics.

Addressing stakeholders, Nasarawa State commissioner for Education, Mr John Mamman who described the programme as timely, said the state government would not relent in its efforts towards addressing schools related gender based violence to enable the students have safe and environment conducive for learning.

The commissioner represented by the Director Administration and Supplies of the ministry,Mr Kassa Tsaku Angbashim expressed the ministry’s resolve to synegise with relevant bodies to improve the standard of education in the state.

Earlier representatives of Rise Up and EVA,Grace Gara and Oluwatosin Alagbe
said the policy document will serve as a backup for school children,educators and policy -makers who are committed to providing and safeguarding school children on Gender -Based Violence.

Director public Defender, Gender Based Violence, ministry of Justice, Justina Alkali Allu , Secretary General of Parent Teacher Association,PTA,Mr Hamza Maina Lamino noted that the policy would go a long way in addressing school related gender based violence.

A student of Government Secondary School Bukan Sidi Lafia, Jessica Kumator appreciated the state government and partners for initiating the policy,said it will assist the the secondary school students expecially girls to study without fear of gender based violence in school.
