Military Will Continue to Uphold Humanitarian Laws- DHQ

The Armed Forces of Nigeria say they are committed to being a professional military force operating strictly within the parameters of international law and the laws of armed conflict.
Major-General Edward Buba, the Director Defence Media Operations, said in a statement that the military would continue to uphold humanitarian laws and human rights principles.
The Armed Forces were reacting to allegations made against them in an Amnesty International report presented at a press conference in Abuja on June 10, 2024.
Major-General Buba maintained that the military has always professionally conducted its affairs, insisting that was not about to change even in the foreseeable future. The military, he stressed, would continue to adhere to international standards.
He urged Amnesty International and other organisations to present any substantiated allegations directly to the military high command, as it has internal mechanisms to regulate and administer justice, addressing any proven cases of misconduct by its personnel.
The Army spokesman said under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the military has maintained a strict zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline and improper conduct during operations.
Also, court martials have been established to handle any cases of misconduct, especially those that negatively affect the military’s image among the public, he disclosed.
He added that the Armed Forces remain focused on their mission and would not be deterred by statements aimed at undermining troop morale.
