National Teachers’ Institute to be Elevated to a Degree Awarding Institution

The National Teachers’ Institute, NTI, says the process is on for the organisation to be elevated to a degree awarding institution.

The National Director and Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Professor Musa Maitafsir, who announced this in during the inauguration of the Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre and matriculation of 157 students, said that a Bill to that effect has passed its seconding reading in the House Representatives.

The National Director and Chief Executive Officer of NTI, represented by the Abia State Coordinator of NTI, Mrs. Benita Oviosun, urged the matriculating students to be committed with their studies as reward for every hard work is success.

The special guest at the event and the Senator Representing Abia Central Senatorial district, Senator Austin Akobundu, who awarded scholarships to 113 of 154 students of the National Teachers’ Institute Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre, explained that the scholarship was in fulfillment of his campaign promises which amongst them centered on human capacity development.

He noted that the scholarship award spread across the six local government areas of Abia Central that includes: Ikwuano, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South and Osisioma.

The Senator who is the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs used the forum to announce that registration had commenced for his scholarship programme for regular students in tertiary institutions.

In a remark the facilitator of the Oboro Ikwuano Study Centre, Mr. Phillip Iroegbulam, thanked Senator Akobundu for assisting some indigents of the senatorial district to acquire higher education and described teaching as godly and noble profession.

Some of the beneficiaries Rosemary Ugochukwu, Amerechi Ezerem, Goodhope Onunka and Tammi Rita expressed joy for the benevolence of Senator Austin Akobudu and assured him of being committed to their studies.
