NEMA Reiterates Commitment to Becoming More Proactive
The National Emergency Management agency NEMA says it has taken steps to make the agency a more proactive organisation rather than a reactive one.
The Director General of the Agency Mrs Zubaida Umar made this known in Jos while commiserating with the Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang over the recent Building collapse that claimed over twenty lives and injured others.
The NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar who was in the state to commiserate with the people of the state over the unfortunate incident was at the scene of the collapsed building at saints academy before proceeding to the hospital to see some of the victims.
Mrs Zubaida Umar commended the synergy between the state emergency agency SEMA and her organization, and appreciated other emergency service providers for the various roles they played during rescue efforts, calling on other states to emulate plateau.
The D.G informed that the agency has taking inventory of the incidence and will respond appropriately in due time.
Responding the plateau state governor Caleb Mutfwang who appreciated the visit said the recent incident calls for a revisiting of the state building Code which would ensure all structures in the state are done according to standard.
The governor revealed that a committee would be set to investigate the incidence while givernment will also strengthen the Jos metropolitan development board JMDB to function optimally.
Speaking to journalists The Acting state Comptroller federal Fire service plateau state command, Tanfa Bonkat said as first responder at the scene, they were able to act swifty alongside SEMA to commence rescue,and called on the standards organization of Nigeria to mob out substandard materials in the country.
So far, relevant bodies have obtained samples of materials at the site for testing to ascertain the cause of the collapse.
