Governor SuleTasks ALGON to be Committed to Grassroot Leadership

Officials of the Association of All Local Government of Nigeria ALGON have converged on Lafia the Nasarawa State capital for the National Executive Council meeting of the Association.

The National President of ALGON Alhaji Aminu Muazu Maifata who is the host of the meeting received executive members from across the country including the Director General of ALGON Sir Itiako Ikpokpo and the Chairman Board of Trustees Chief Odunayo Ategbero.

Top among issues that would be discussed during the NEC meeting might not be unconnected with the recent judgment of the Supreme Court which granted full financial autonomy for the 774 Local Government Councils in the country.

Governor Abdullahi Sule represented by Deputy Governor Dr Emmanuel Akabe while addressing the ALGON Executive members during a courtesy visit in Lafia called on the local council chairmen to entrench a formidable cooperation among them and work for the common good of the people at the grassroots.

The Governor stated that as the closest leaders to the people, there was a need for the council chairmen to be committed to making transparent and accountable leadership their watchword to enable the people to have a sense of belonging

He noted that the state government would continue to ensure non-interference with the affairs of the local councils as the third tier of government to pave the way for uninterrupted provision of basic amenities including healthcare, and rural road infrastructure.

The ALGON National Executive Members also paid to the Emir of Lafia.

A communique is expected at the end of the meeting.
