Nigerian Music Icon Onyeka Onwenu Dies at 72
The music industry was thrown into mourning last night following the death of delectable singer, Onyeka Onwenu
Onwenu who was largely referred to as the “Elegant Stallion” was said to have died at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos after slumping at the 80th birthday celebration of Dr.Stella Okoli, the CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals
Many have taken to their social media platforms to mourn the iconic singer and song writer who was also an actress, human right activist, politician and journalist.
The Imo state born Onwenu who died at the age of seventy- two has been recognized for her immense contributions in Nigeria including being awarded the National Honors of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic , MFR, in 2011.
The elegant stallion who is a mother of two, has also been recognized as one of the most influential women in Nigeria by various organisations.
Onwenu will be remembered for her music albums such as In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun.
She also featured in the Half of a Yellow Sun and Lions Heart, among others.
