NUC Approves Establishment of Kwara State University of Education

The National Universities Commission, NUC has given approval for the establishment of Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State.

This is in fulfillment of the requirements needed for the approval which included the submission of the Gazetted University law, Academic brief and master plan of the School by the Kwara State Government, in compliance with the guidelines of the Commission.

While presenting the letter of recognition to the Kwara State Governor at a ceremony in Abuja, the Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Mr. Chris Miyaki pledged the commitment of the Commission to the expansion of access to University Education.

“With effect from today, Tuesday, the 30th of July, 2024, Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State has with immediate effect being recognized as the 64th State University and the two hundred and seventy-forth University in the University system.
By a copy of this letter, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, the Tertiary Education Fund, TETFUND and the National Youth Service Corps are hereby being notified of the establishment of this university”

Earlier, the Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, represented by the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi while presenting the strategic documents to the Executive Secretary of the NUC, gave assurances that the necessary funds would be made available for the smooth take off of the university.

“Let me also express commitment from his Excellency that all the investments that we need to put in to make this university a reality will be done promptly. We believe in giving the children sound education”

Mr. Alabi called for the cooperation of stakeholders especially in the area of capacity building to entrench standards in the University.

The approval is coming on the heels of a letter to the Commission by the Kwara State Governor, requesting recognition for the Kwara State University of Education, after the State House of Assembly passed the Bill for its establishment into law.

The National Universities Commission is the regulatory body responsible for among other things, granting approval for all academic programmes run in Nigerian universities; granting approval for the establishment of all higher educational institutions offering degree programmes in Nigerian universities and ensuring quality assurance of all academic programmes.
