FG Establishes Model Smart School in FCT
As part of efforts to digitize basic education in the country, the federal government has established a model smart school in the Federal Capital Territory.
The project, being pioneered by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC is expected to deliver a smart school in each state of the federation.
During an inspection tour of the school in Karshi Area of the FCT, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman explained that the goal of the initiative was to ensure that every child was introduced to technology at an early age.
Professor Mamman said the seven hundred capacity boarding school would commence academic activities next month.
He said”There will be one of these schools in every State of the federation. Already, we have 26, the rest are ongoing and this is one of the legacy this government is delivering to Nigeria which is, make provision to allow for a digitized school system and for pupils to be trained in the use of technology at the early stage education. The school is taking off next month.”
The Minister encouraged staff of the school to be dedicated and carry out the task ahead with diligence.
On the safety of the school, the Coordinator, UBEC Digital Resources Centre, Professor Bashir Galadanci stated that a robust security architecture had been put in place and the school was collaborating with the immediate community to safeguard the environment.
The Emir of Karshi, Alhaji Ismail Muhammed represented by the District Head, Alhaji Ahmed Doka who expressed gratitude for the siting of the school in the area, promised to work with the school authorities to ensure a conducive and safe learning environment for the pupils.
