FAAN to Establish On-Site Courts to Crackdown on Airport Nuisance
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is set to introduce on-site magistrate courts to swiftly prosecute violators of airport rules and regulations, including touting activities.
The Managing Director, FAAN Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, disclosed this during a meeting with security agencies at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
In a statement by the spokesperson for FAAN, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Mrs. Kuku identified touts and unauthorized individuals as major disruptor of airport operations and passenger comfort.
She vowed to prosecute offenders on-site, stating, “We have an anti-touting taskforce, and we will commence immediate prosecution of those involved in these illegal activities.
According to her, airports should be safe havens, not breeding grounds for harassment.
The MD FAAN also expressed concern over car hire operators flouting regulations and warned of strict enforcement.
To expedite passenger screening, the FAAN boss announced plans to reduce manual baggage checks at the international terminal, replacing them with real-time screening systems.
“We must modernize our operations, streamlined processes and advanced technology are essential for a world-class airport.”
She revealed that Terminal C of NAIA is on track for completion by December 2024 and pledged to increase international flight routes to optimize the underutilized international terminal.
The Military Airport Commander, Air Force Group Captain Abbas Hashim, commended FAAN for the initiative and called for more frequent collaborative meetings among security agencies.
The statement adds that, gathering aimed to address airport challenges, outline the management’s vision, and enhance passenger experience.
