Northern Leaders Rally to Strengthen Region Ahead of 2027 Elections
Northern Nigerian leaders are organizing a summit to strengthen the region’s political and economic influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
The League of Northern Democrats (LND), composed of former governors, senators, and other key figures, announced this initiative in Abuja.
The summit will focus on the region’s political direction, economic development, and security concerns.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Vice President Kashim Shettima voiced concerns about the region’s progress and emphasized the need to address security challenges.
The group is committed to unifying the North and restoring its prominence in national politics. To garner support, the LND plans to engage prominent northern stakeholders, including former heads of state, vice presidents, Senate presidents, and other influential figures.
The LND’s ultimate goal is to foster political unity and solidarity in Northern Nigeria, creating a strong foundation for the region’s leadership in the national political arena.
