SSANU Demands Immediate Payment of Withheld Salaries

The National Executive Council of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has called on relevant agencies to implement Presidential directive to pay the withheld 4months salaries of its members.

In a communique issued by the President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, after its NEC meeting in Abuja urges the government to pay the outstanding salaries to enable them concentrate on the job.

The members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) had in July embarked on nationwide protests in the universities campuses to demand the immediate release of their withheld salaries..

The Protesting union who gathered at the entrance of the University of Abuja called on the Federal Government to release their withheld salaries and implement their other demands.

Also, the National Executive Council expresses dismay with the continued delay by Government to pay its outstanding Earned Allowances.

” We are aware that the sum of N50billion was appropriated in the 2023 budget for this Purpose” SSANU President stated.

President of SSANU said some University staff have not been paid the National Minimum wage arrears approved in 2018 despite the efforts of the union.

Comrade Ibrahim urged the federal government to reconsider the one hundred percent hike in tuition fees in Federal Universities considering the current economic hardship occasioned by subsidy removal.

On Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Buses, the Union asked the federal government to extend distribution of these buses to all universities for transportation of staff and students.

In the communique, the Union called on Government to urgently fix the local refineries to remedy the current economic debacle.

The Union says protest the world over is a fundamental right of citizens especially against bad governance.

” NEC in session also condemns in strong terms, the unwarranted arrest of peaceful protesters against bad governance” the communique reads.

The Union called for the Re-negotiation of the 2009 Federal government and SSANU Agreement to enable universities in the country carryout its responsibilities.
