Women, Youths, PWDs Urged to Embrace Urban Farming

Farmers in Nasarawa State particularly women, youths and persons with disability have been encouraged to embrace Urban farming and Hydroponic techniques to grow more vegetables for domestic and commercial consumption.

Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, Women Environmental Programme, WEP, Miss Damaris Uja gave the words of encouragement at the training of about seventy farmers on Urban and Hydroponic Farming in Lafia the Nasarawa State Capital.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Manager of Women Environmental Programme, WEP,, Miss Damaris Uja who said the training supported by Christian Aid was to promote climate smart agricultural practices among small-scale farmers, persons with disability, youths and vulnerable groups to overcome climate change in the country.

Miss Damaris while calling on the state government to train extension workers on Hydrophonic farming, urged the beneficiaries to make use of the knowledge gained to boost food production across the state .

A Hydrophonic expert, Mr Sylvanus Bature explained that Hydroponic is an easy farming technique for farming Nutrients, including tomatoes, pepper among others for healthy and economic growth of people and the state .

Head of Produce and Crop Protection, Nasarawa State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Sadanu Muhammed commended Women Environmental Programme and Christian Aid for the initiative,said the ministry will continue to synergize with them to promote Hydroponic farming techniques in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Radio Nigeria Precious FM, Mrs Asaba Averson, Hauwa Suleiman and Balarabe Ahmed appreciated the organisers, promising to step down the training in their communities.

Highlights of the event were practical sessions, questions and answers on Hydroponic farming.
