Lawmakers Urged to Prioritize Well-being of Rural Women

Legislators in the Plateau State House of Assembly have been challenged to ensure that the needs of rural women are properly addressed in their deliberations.

Executive Director CLEEN Foundation threw the challenge at a Three Day retreat organised for them on legislative roles in the localisation, implementation and oversight of women, peace and security agenda in plateau state .

The retreat was aimed at engaging in a conversation and exchange of ideas on legislative roles in the localisation, implementation and oversight of women and security agenda in the state.

Addressing the participants, Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation Dr Gad Shamaki sought the need for the legislators to concentrate their energy on law making and oversight functions to ensure that government institutions promote peace , security and gender equality.

In a remark,State Commissioner for Women Affairs Mrs. Caroline Dafut represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Mister Alexander Anlong noted that women especially in Rural areas go through many challenges and appealed to the stakeholders to Come up with solutions that will reduce them.

On his part, State Secretary He 4 She Network Mister Stanley Smiles disclosed that Problems faced by women can be attributed to Cultural norms among others pointing out that the network is working towards ensuring that women have seats in the traditional councils.

While declaring the event open, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Mister Gabriel Dewan gave assurance that the Assembly will focus on matters that attract peace and development of the state and encouraged the organisers to approach the legislators for n
legislative backingon issues concerning Women.

There were goodwill messages from representatives of Women Rights commission and Women mediation Network among others.
