The Federal Government has proposed a temporary zero-duty levy on selected food imports.

This initiative was announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun after a closed-door meeting with the Nigeria Customs Service Board in Abuja.

Mr.Edun stated that the measure aims to increase food availability, reduce prices and provide immediate relief to citizens.

In a statement by the Director Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed Manga, the Minister further explained that the initiative was designed to alleviate the current food shortage and reduce soaring food prices, which has been major contributor to inflation across the country.

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy gave the assurance that while this initiative offers immediate relief, President Bola Tinubu remains focused on long-term solutions, particularly boosting domestic food production through availability of essential farming inputs to small scale farmers.
