Over 7,000 Farmers Benefit From FG Agricultural Inputs Intervention In Kwara State
Over 7,000 farmers in Kwara state have benefited from federal government agricultural inputs intervention to boost productivity and enhance food security in the country.
Speaking at the Flag -Off of the distribution of the inputs in Ilọrin , under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket” ,2024-Wet Season ,organised by the federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the state Coordinator Dr. Bello Ismail said the inputs are targeted at genuine farmers.
He said the inputs distributed to the farmers include organic and inorganic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides,and seeds.
Dr Ismail explained that the farmers are selected through their commodity association to ensure their genuineness.
He noted that all those who benefited from the initiative are contacted directly and a redemption code was sent to them to enable them access the inputs at the collection centre.
The coordinator said the farmers are expected to pay 25 percent of the total cost of the inputs while the federal government will pay the balance of 75 percent.
Dr,Ismail said the inputs are given to farmers producing rice, soya beans, maize, Sorghum,and Cassava.
In his address the Director Procurement, Finance and Supply, Kwara state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mayaki Babazuko Mudi said the farm inputs support given to the farmers would go a long way in improving food production.
In a remark the immediate past secretary of All Farmers Association,Kwara state Chapter,Mallam Mukalia Salaudeen who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries said the programme would assist in ensuring food sufficiency in the state and the country in general.
