The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, has called on both foreign and Local investors to collaborate with the Local Government Administration, to bring about meaningful development in the country.

The National President of ALGON, Alhaji Aminu Maifata, made the call at an inaugural meeting of the 2024 Local Government Economic Summit planning committee in Abuja.

Alhaji Aminu who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mr Akala Samuel, decried alleged neglect of local governments by both the Federal and State Governments which he said had hindered the nation’s development over the years.

He also urged Nigerians to actively participate in the affairs of local governments

The Secretary, Board of Governance of the Local Government Economic Summit Group, Mr Tijjani Muhammad, who spoke on the essence of the meeting, said it was to plan for a convergence of stakeholders that would brainstorm on ways to ensure Rural Development and food security at the grassroots.

He added that the Supreme Court’s judgement on local government Autonomy is an opportunity for the local government administration to thrive.
