Plateau Council Elections: Electorates in Ganawuri District, Riyom LGA decry shortage of ballot papers

Electorates in some wards of Ganawuri District in Riyom local government area of Plateau State have called on Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission PLASIEC to conduct elections in three wards before announcing results from Riyom.
The electorates while in audience with Radio Nigeria Highland FM correspondent alleged that elections were not conducted in three wards of the district and are still waiting on PLASIEC so they would exercise their franchise.
Some of the electorates including Song Andrew ,Paulina Bala and the Aten Youth leader Mr Deme Emmanuel Net revealed that on the 9th of October 2024 they came out in their numbers anxious to exercise their franchise but were disappointed due to shortages of ballots papers.
They alledge that polling units in the wards affected had less ballot papers than the number of registered voters.
According to them the people refused to vote insisting that the electoral officers must bring enough ballot papers before they would vote .so as not to disenfranchise anyone.
An elder statesman in Ganawuri Atar Luka Nkwon said he has been voting for more than 40 years and has never witnessed any electoral process like the recent, describing it as undemocratic and avoidable.
Also lending voice on the matter Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN in Ganawuri Rev . Samuel Mangai who is a registered voter in Bum ward of Ganawuri said as observers the CAN in Ganawuri is calling on government and PLASIEC to ensure justice is done to the people by reorganizing elections in the affected wards.
The electorates who expressed readiness to vote appealed to PLASIEC and state government not to disenfranchise them.
Meanwhile PLASIEC had already announced results for some Local Government Councils including that of Riyom.
