Go Green Initiative Launches Youth Climate Champions Program

Go Green Environmental Health and Sustainable Initiative, GOEHSI, in collaboration with Centre for Family Empowerment and Global Centre in Adaptation has launched the Empowering Youth Climate Adaptation Champions, EYAC Project at LGEA Primary School Achusha as part of activities to celebrate world youth climate adaptation action day
President of the Initiative, Mr Jackson Ameh stated that the launch was to equip young energetic people with knowledge, skills and tools they need towards climate change resilience in Benue communities.

Mr Ameh expressed worry over the devastating effects of climate change in the country including flooding, degradation and pollution and encouraged people to plant trees to tame the tide.
The Program Manager, Mrs Priscilla Akumba explained that climate change is a pressing issue that requires educating people on innovative approaches to adaptation, mitigation, sustainable agricultural practices, renewable energy solutions, and eco-friendly policies.
Mrs Akumba said due to the severe flooding that wreaked havoc in Achusha community, the NGO decided to start with the area as the first step towards addressing the dangers posed by climate change while promising to extend the gesture to the remaining twenty two Local Government Areas to achieve greater success.
Founder, Environment and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative ECCAI, Mrs Victoria Esa noted that the collective action of youth involvement in tackling climate change was crucial and charged them to work together to overcome the enormous challenges.
Some EYAC adaptation climate change champions were selected from Achusha and would be trained in flood and waste management so that they can mentor others in the communities.
Correspondent Ene Ohaba reports that
two thrash cans, two shovels, two sets of rain boots, hand gloves, facemask and dustbin leathers were given to the community to enable them clean up drainage channels and avoid dumping of refuse indiscriminately.
