Main Opposition Political Party to Boycott LG Election in Nasarawa State

As political parties commence primaries ahead of the November 2 local government elections in Nasarawa state,the main opposition party the People’s Democratic party PDP says it will not participate in the exercise.

State chairman of PDP Francis Orogu who announced this, said the decision to boycott the local government polls was reached at a state executive council of the party in lafia the state capital.

Mr Orogu explained that after careful analysis of the announcement of the conduct of local government councils election by the state independent Electoral commission NASIEC ,the PDP have decided to boycott the exercise.

According to the PDP state chairman,,the huge amount fixed for the purchase of nomination forms and short notice for the election are some of the reasons for the withdrawal..

He also expressed reservations on the credibility of NASIEC to conduct a free fair and unbias local government polls.

“The last time we participated in the election in 2021,..The PDP won in most of the local government areas but the Electoral umpire announced something different…so why must we waste our time this time around to participate when we all know the outcome “..
Orogu stressed..

The PDP state chairman who emphasized that the party remains popular among residents of Nasarawa state called on the party members and loyalists to remain calm ,peaceful and restrain themselves from any act that could breach the peace in their communities and state at large..

Mr Francis Orogu who used the opportunity to restate that PDP is restrategizing to reclaim the state and country come 2027, decried the current level of hardship Nigerians are going through due to what he called insensitive economic reforms by the APC led government..

The Nasarawa state PDP chairman who is in the last lap of his 8 year tenure, said the party under his leadership provided a vibrant opposition that had put the APC ruling administration on check.
