BENUE STATE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BOARD SEEKS SUPPORT FROM HEALTH SECTOR Stakeholders TO ACHIEVE WIDER IMMUNISATION COVERAGE.

Ashi- Wende has solicited the support of stakeholders in the twenty three local Government areas for a successful campaign in the upcoming Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week from the sixth to tenth of next month.

Mrs Ashi-Wende who made the appeal  during the state level stakeholders engagement meeting held at Eyahs Hotel Makurdi, said the aim is to reach more mothers and children so as to improve their health and reduce mortality rates.

Represented by the Director, Administration and Finance, Mr Emmanuel Wende,  the Executive Secretary noted that her office would continue to promote good health during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal care for early detection and prevention of diseases.

State Nutrition Officer, Mrs Faustina Shar stated that Nigeria has the highest death rate globally of young children and women of child bearing age, and listed the importance of  vitamin A and deworming medicines which would be added to the services for good eye sight, skin and general wellbeing.

State Health Educator of the Board, Mr Emmanuel Beeka said one million, two hundred and seventy four children under five years in the state are to benefit from the intervention and  appealed to stakeholders to ensure communication gets to the target audience for increased coverage.

Director Ogbadibo Local Government Health Authority, Mr Ezekiel Onah who spoke on behalf of his colleagues promised to educate people in the various councils about the low cost intervention for wider participation to reduce neonatal mortality.

The interventions would include immunization, nutritional assessment, vitamin A supplementation, deworming and growth monitoring.
