Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger to Withdraw from ECOWAS in 2025

The Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS has resolved that the trio of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali will seize to be members of sub regional body from the 29th of January, 2025.
In a communique at the end of the 66th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Abuja, the leaders agreed that the Mediation mission led by the President’s of Togo Faure Gnassingbé and his Senegalese counterpart Bassirou Diomaye Faye will continue to engage them in an effort to return them back to ECOWAS.
President of the ECOWAS Commission Dr Omar Toure who read the communique, explained that a transition period of six months would commence at the expiration of January 29th deadline.
On the security implications that may arise as a result of the withdrawal of the three countries, Dr Toure explained that the sub regional body would take a proactive measure towards any possible threat.
