The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee has granted a two-week extension for allottees of Maitama Cadastral Zone A10 District to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) bills.

The Director of Land Administration in the FCT, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, announced the extension while briefing journalists in Abuja after the committee’s meeting. He explained that the decision followed appeals from affected allottees requesting additional time to meet their financial obligations.

This development comes after FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, issued a two-week ultimatum for payment, which had expired, leading to the withdrawal of the Right of Occupancy for defaulters.

In related updates, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi, disclosed that the Executive Committee has approved the renewal of contracts for two firms to secure Abuja’s rail tracks and stations for another two years. These contracts, initially awarded in March 2022, were aimed at safeguarding the rail mass transit scheme, which had been vandalized during the COVID-19 lockdown, leading to operational suspension.

Additionally, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, announced the approval of contracts for the development of two multi-event sports centres at strategic locations within Abuja. These centres, upon completion, will feature football pitches, lawn tennis courts, table tennis facilities, and indoor sports amenities.

Mr. Dauda emphasized that the sports centres align with the Renewed Hope Agenda and aim to promote residents’ physical and mental well-being by offering diverse recreational opportunities.
