Nasarawa State Govt To Partner Local Organization to Eliminate Child Labor

Nasarawa State government is to strengthen partnership with relevant agencies, and the Local and International Labour Organisation, to eliminate child labor and child Molestation in the state.

Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr Emmanuel Yonah, stated this in a message to the flag of the campaign against Child Labor, Child Molestation, and out-of-school children in collaboration with the Maitoro Peace Advocacy Foundation held in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

Represented by the Director of Research and Planning, Mr. Clement Allu, the permanent Secretary noted that the collaboration was necessary to ensure adequate awareness among stakeholders and to modify behavior within the communities and the society at large.

According to him, the State Government will deploy its grassroots structure, which includes, the Child’s Right Acts Law, renovation of the Shelter homes and the establishment of correctional centers to enlighten citizens on the dangers of child labor and its negative impact on communities, the economy, and the child.

The founder Maitoro Peace Advocacy Foundation, Mr. Newman Solomon Maitoro, said, as part of their culture and orientation process, the foundation advocates justice for victims of child labor, child Molestation, and out-of-school children as well as creating awareness programs to the general public.

The foundation further calls for capital punishment for the perpetrators of the act to reduce to the barest minimum and eventual elimination of child labor issues in Nigeria.
