FG Reiterates Commitment to Foster Peace and Stability in Lake Chad Region

The 5th edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors forum has opened in maiduguri the Borno state capital with a call on member stated to unite for the peace and stability of the region.
The call was made by president Bola Tinubu at the meeting which had Governors of eight states and provinces, traditional rulers and development partners at the instance of Yobe state government.
Represented by Vice president Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the guarantee of peace in the lake chad region remained paramount even when domestic policies and politics seek to undermine the nobility of agreements to serve the people.
He appreciated the lake chad basin commission for its sustained commitment to fostering regional integration and safeguarding peace and security in the region.
The president also recognized the efforts of the Armed forces operating under the multi national joint taskforce for their sacrifices in combating insurgency and ensuring the safety of the communities and also honored the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the member states of lake chad basin.

In their separate remarks, Borno state governor Babagana Umara Zulum and his counterparts, Governors of Adamawa and Yobe states all expressed commitment to provision of durable solutions to victims of of Boko haram insurgency and making policies and interventions that will address the root causes of the unrest.
They applauded development partners for the ongoing stabilization and resilience processes in the lake chad basin region.
The three day program is expected to take stock of the progress made so far, agree on a shared understanding of the trajectory of the current situation in the lake chad basin region, and proffer policy pathways to enhanced regional cooperation, stabilization and long term peace and sustainable development in the lake chad region.
