The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspected drug trafficker, Igbokwe, who attempted to smuggle 81 wraps of cocaine into Nigeria.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Igbokwe left Lagos for Addis Ababa on January 22, where he ingested the drugs before boarding a flight to Beirut, Lebanon, for delivery.

However, he was denied entry due to insufficient funds and deported to Ethiopia, where he unsuccessfully attempted to excrete the drugs.

He returned to Lagos on January 25 and was arrested at the airport the next day. After five days under observation, he expelled 24 pellets before undergoing surgery on January 30 to remove the remaining 57 wraps due to medical complications.

In total, NDLEA recovered 1.943kg of cocaine from his body.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on January 29, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 2,000kg shipment of Ghanaian Loud, a high-grade cannabis strain, at Lekki Beach.

Two suspects, Sunday Awoyede and Christopher Cletus, were arrested while attempting to load the drugs onto a truck.

Lawal Idris Olasunkanmi, was apprehended the same day with 55kg of skunk during a raid in Mushin, Lagos.
