JAMB Introduces Extra Exams for Underage UTME Candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced four additional exams for underage exceptional candidates taking the UTME.
JAMB Registrar Professor Is-haq Oloyede announced that the new policy is aimed at ensuring only qualified candidates secure admission into tertiary institutions.
Oloyede made this statement during an inspection tour of Computer-Based Test CBT centers in Ilorin the Kwara State capital.
He explained that the candidates must sign an indemnity letter before sitting for the UTME and those who fail to meet the required standards will face sanctions.
The JAMB Registrar noted that some parents use their children to prove what he described as selfish claims and ambitions, emphasizing the need for a fair and transparent admission process in line with the Board’s policy.
Former Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman, after monitoring the 2024 UTME, announced that candidates must be 18 years and above before entering tertiary institutions.
The policy which was widely criticized for limiting young candidates, was later reversed by his successor, Professor Tunji Alausa, restoring previous admission requirements
