Nasarawa State University Scrapps SUG in The Institution

Management of Nasarawa state University keffi has scrapped the Student Union Government SUG in the institution..

Henceforth the student body in the university is to be called Students Representatives Council SRC until further notice.

This move followed recommendations of a high powered Administrative committee set up by the school management after violence erupted during the SUG election in September 2024.

At the inauguration of the Student Representatives Council at the Senate chamber of the state university in keffi,the Vice Chancellor of NSUK Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman noted that the formation of the Students Representatives Council SRC became necessary after the destruction of school property and polarization of students along religious divides in the aftermath of the inconclusive SUG election last year.

Professor Sa’adatu Liman explained that in order not to allow vacuum the management invoked the doctrine of necessity by creating the Student Representatives Council as an alternative structure for the students leadership in the university to perform the functions of SUG .

The Vice Chancellor of NSUK enjoined the new leadership of the student body to embrace dialogue and carry everyone along and avoid confrontation in their dealings.

In a remark,the Dean student Affairs NSUK, Professor Yahaya Mohammed pointed out that the 21 members of the student representatives Council were selected based on Character, Faculty and Gender representation as well as the zeal to serve..

Deputy vice chancellor of the university Professor Theophilus Lagi urged the new student Exco to initiate programs that aimed at inculcating positive thinking into students to become good ambassadors of the institution.

In his acceptance speech,Chairman of Students Representatives Council SRC,Comrade Anau Simon expressed appreciation to the management of the university for finding them worthy and on behalf of members pledged to work diligently to reposition the students body in the institution to its former glory…

Climax of the event was presentation of appointment letters to the new SRC members by the Vice Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman.
