Bill for a Law to Provide Funds, Support to Approved Faith Based Health Institutions in Plateau State Passes First Reading

A bill for a law to provide funds and other supports to approved Faith based Health institutions in plateau state 2024 has passed first reading, before the state house of assembly .

The bill was sponsored by member representing Langtang North Central in the Plateau State House of Assembly Daniel Nanbol and co sponsored by Joseph Bukar, member representing Shendam, Abdul Yanga Mangu North , Eli Ankala Bassa Irigwe and Adamu Aliyu Jos North North.

The bill which was brought before the floor of the house since the ninth assembly was reintroduce due to the continuous significant role played by Faith based institutions in Plateau state.

According to the sponsor, Faith-Based Health Institutions have been providing critical healthcare services to the people of Plateau State thereby complementing the efforts of the State Government in the provision of healthcare services,hence the need to provide support to them.

Mr Nanbol told the assembly that if passed the bill will enhance the capacity of faith-based health institutions to deliver quality healthcare services, Improve access to healthcare services for the people of Plateau State, and Promote partnership between the State Government and Faith-Based Health Institutions.

The member cited examples of emergency situations such as the school building collapsed last year in Jos, where both state and federal government health facilities were overwhelmed and victims have to be attended to in the faith based health institutions among other cases.

The legislator however explained that only Faith-Based Health Institutions duly registered with the relevant authorities in Plateau State, and has a proven track record of delivering quality healthcare services and meets the standards set by the State Ministry of Health shall benefit from the gesture.

He added that the bill gives the State Ministry of Health the responsibility for approving Faith-Based Health Institutions for support.
