Go-Green, a non-Governmental Organization, Celebrates Women in Two Communities in Benue State.

A non governmental organization, GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives has organized a one-day workshop for women livestock herders and crop farmers from Tse-Akpuku in Makurdi and Abinsi in Guma Local Government Areas in the state.

The event which was to commemorate International Women’s Day discussed a future where women would have equal rights, power and opportunities to thrive.

CEO, GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives, Mr Jackson Ameh promised to promote healthy relationships between herders and farmers for peacebuilding and mentioned that members of the communities have been trained in sustainable agricultural practices, corporative management, peace building and carrying out dialogue session.

Mr Ameh stressed the need for women inclusion in decision making because GoGreen is passionate about women empowerment

Project Coordinator in Benue State, Mrs Theodora Chia emphasized the commitment of SPRING Go-Green in championing the rights and empowerment of women while encouraging them to strive for a more equitable society.

Dr Helen Teghtegh who threw light on Legal Rights, Gender Equality and Strategies for Women’s Empowerment maintained that when women’s voices are heard, it brings about more inclusive societies while Mrs Lucia Torjir told the participants that they are important support system that keep their family going.

Speaking on the critical role women play in conflict resolution and peace building, Mrs Blessing Adzaagee noted that lasting peace process is unattainable without the inclusion of women while the Director Women Affair, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Magdalen Andoor stressed the need for women to rightfully claim their place across every field.

Some participants Mnena Igba from Abinsi and Harila Umar from Tse- Akpuku thanked Go-Green Environmental Health and Sustainability Initiatives for carrying out many projects in agro pastoral practices in their communities and for teaching them to accelerate more action for gender equality in all they do.

Correspondent Ene Ohaba reports that there were experts discussions on the role of women in agriculture and livestock farming where they shared their success stories in their communities.
