More than 1,000 vulnerable women, including widows and orphans, have received food items from the Nasarawa State Government as part of efforts to ease hardships during the holy month of Ramadan.

At the flag-off ceremony in Lafia, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Princess Margaret Itake Elayo, said the initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to supporting the less privileged during this sacred period.

Food is a fundamental necessity, and demand surges during religious festivities like Ramadan. To cushion the impact of economic hardship and promote inclusivity, both government and private sector initiatives often step in to assist vulnerable households.

In line with this, the Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services has launched a food distribution programme, targeting widows, orphans, and the elderly to mitigate the challenges of fasting during Ramadan.

Addressing beneficiaries, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Princess Margaret Elayo, emphasized that the initiative will also help the state government gather data on vulnerable groups to enhance future relief efforts.

Princess Margaret Elayo commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritizing the welfare of disadvantaged citizens and urged well-meaning individuals to extend similar support to those in need.

She also called for prayers for national progress, urging citizens to seek divine intervention for economic stability.

Some beneficiaries, including Sa’adatu Isa, Idris Abdullahi, and Habiba Suleiman, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that it would significantly reduce their hardships in the holy month of Ramadan.
