Angry youths burn LG Secretariat, other buildings in Benue

A report from Benue State says Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area was in a state of disorder for many hours of Tuesday ( 11/3/25) as a group of youth took to the streets burning houses in protest of the killing of three members of Civil Protection Guards in On-MbaAondo village by armed herdsmen.

The action was said to have led to the burning down of a larger part of the Local Government Secretariat, the palace of the Ter Nagi,Chief Ayua Abomtse, Engineer Felix Atume and other prominent sons of the Local Government.

Gwer West Local Government Chairman, Mr Victor Ormin could not return the calls put across to him to confirm the matter. However, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Steve Yabanet led a team of security agencies to the area to restore peace.

Reacting to the development, Governor Hyacinth Alia charged security agents to intensify their efforts to capture the perpetrators of the violent act.

Governor Alia in statement advocates restraint, stressing that destruction of property would only frustrate the efforts of the Government, which is devoted to building up peace and security.
