Taskforce strengthens fight against drug abuse in Kano

As part of efforts to restore peace and rehabilitate youth in Kano State, the Taskforce on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has intensified consultations with key stakeholders.

The committee, led by the chairman, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, who also serves as the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, visited the Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Council of Ulamas.

Dr. Kofar Mata emphasized that collaboration with these agencies is critical to combating drug abuse and rehabilitating affected youth.Receiving the delegation, NDLEA Commandant Abubakar Idris Ahmed acknowledged the synergy between the agency’s mandate and the committee’s mission, pledging full support.

In recognition of their dedication to tackling drug abuse, the commandant honored Dr. Kofar Mata and the Commissioner of Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, with NDLEA Anti-Drug Abuse Ambassador Awards.

At the Emir’s Palace, Dr. Kofar Mata briefed Emir Sanusi on the task force’s composition, which includes representatives from all security agencies in the state.

He sought the Emir’s royal blessing and guidance in achieving their goals. In response, Emir Sanusi lauded the state government’s initiative and assured the Emirate’s full backing.

During a visit to the Council of Ulamas, the task force urged religious leaders to amplify the anti-drug abuse message in their Ramadan Tafsir and Friday sermons, emphasizing parental and community responsibility in curbing social vices.

Commissioner Waiya also highlighted the integration of the SAFE CORRIDOR initiative into the task force’s operations, reinforcing the government’s commitment to making Kano a safer place for all.
